After an intensive two months of being in the studio, writing, recording, rehearsing, music, music, music - the EP is complete!

All the elements and imagery in the design are signifigant to the band. The EP is titled "and all the tigers" from the very last song we wrote and recorded so that is why, in the end, the design has tigers in it. The tigers all have something about them ( a hoof, a heel, a tattoo from a joke we have, a watch from Harris' childhood). The diamonds in the sky are made from Harris' shirt ( I liked it so much I scanned in the fabric and added it to the design). The sumi-e ink clouds were painted for another album that was never used but I loved them so much that I used them on this one. The lines, zigzags, and dots are images from a diagram about telegraph machines and transistor radios out of an old science book (1950's?) my friend gave me this summer; Farid is studying electrical engineering and I love morse code- I use it often in my poster work with secret messages!

WEB DESIGN: Christine Hale

Some mock up pages for my own music website! :)
The shots I took when I went back to my hometown Joplin, Missouri for my lil' brothers wedding! I've been pretty busy doing the music stuff lately, which is why I haven't posted much art up. Recording, writing, playing a ton of lil' shows and working on my album/EP! Monday I'll be in Montreal singing and playing in a band called The Hoof and The Heel. More news on that stuff later or you can find out all about it in on myspace music page since this lil' bloggy blog is mostly for my illustration/art/design work.

The style is very minimal, neutral, simple with a fixed background. I thought it would be neat to incorporate "candid" looking shots as well as elements from my lil' town neighborhood to give it a really personal touch. It's where I grew up! And I'm really into overexposed even out of focus shots right now. Moving more into film and the raw stuff and also more innocent--back to the basics! Same with my photography I've been doing lately as well. There is always something so sincere, permanent, and in the moment with film that digital just can't grasp. With digital you can easily toss it aside or take a million shots, with film you only have that moment and then you have to wait to see how it turns out. I think I take better photographs that way knowing that I have to get it, right then and right there.

Here is some of the artwork I did for her album although it wasn't used. Hopefully I can use it for something else or it's just a stepping stone to something similar because I love it so!

STERN ALBUM OPTIONS

STERNALBUM6

Above are my 4 main styles I chose for this album by STERN (released in Germany!) to choose from ( with a million color options and small adjustments here and there). I really love to give different options-and you can see from the bottom to the top the process. I started with vector images and gradually worked to all hand-drawn images.

Sometimes I will get approached for a project and have not that many boundaries. That is hard. I can come up with a million different ways of translating "stars".Haha. But, I also love these type of projects because then I start to explore different techniques and create new art from it! Like this below is made up my colored pencil drawing of stars-galaxy caught on film, with layers of actual photographs from space, with then added lights and balls and all kinds of different things filters to make it the way it looks now-simple and organic. I call it Starlab and there are many that look the same because they are made up of cosmic elements, but, they kind of just look like something you might find on a petri dish.

So pretty!
